MAN UTD AND TOTTENHAM IN RACE FOR PORTUGAL ACE
Manchester United have been active in the transfer window so far as the Red Devils have already made two signings this summer.
Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Swansea winger Daniel James are the two players to have arrived, Old Trafford.
According to reports from the EveningStandard reveals that Manchester United are increasingly confident of signing Sporting Lisbon ace Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes has been linked with a move to the club in the past month.
Italian tabloid La Gazzetta Dello reporter Nicola Schira also corroborates this information and it is expected that the move should be completed in the coming weeks. Schira alluded on Twitter that Manchester United have made an offer of £35 million.
Sporting Lisbon are looking for close €60-€70 million but Manchester United are unwilling to spend that amount for the Portuguese international. Fernandes is regarded as one of the best players in the Portuguese League after a record-breaking season with the club.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for the player as a replacement for Christian Eriksen. Eriksen is closing in on a move away from the club after failing to agree on a new contract with the club.
It is understood that Tottenham’s chairman Dany Levy has lined-up the Portuguese as a key transfer target.
Eriksen has been linked with moves to Real Madrid in Spain and rivals Manchester United. The Dane was signed some seasons back as a replacement for Luka Modric and quickly displaced David Bentley from the starting line-up.
Fernandes would be looking to have a similar impact in the team if he makes the move as the attacking midfielder has all the tools to succeed in England.
It is thought that Manchester United look most likely to finalize this deal as they remain frontrunners for his signature. Fernandes scored 20 goals and 13 assists.
